2025 highlights the centennial of the emergence of quantum theory and the birth of modern science. This meeting is focused upon both celebrating some notable centenaries and reviewing the current state of the art.

The Nobel Prize in Physics 1925 was awarded jointly to James Franck and Gustav Ludwig Hertz “for their discovery of the laws governing the impact of an electron upon an atom”

In 1925 Wolfgang Pauli put forwards what is now known as ‘The Pauli exclusion principle’ , asserting that no two electrons in an atom can be at the same time in the same state or configuration a principle that helped to explain  the observed patterns of light emission from atoms.

These were two important events in the development of quantum mechanics and in recognition on June 7, 2024, the United Nations proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). According to the proclamation, this year-long, worldwide initiative will “be observed through activities at all levels aimed at increasing public awareness of the importance of quantum science and applications.”

CEQPAS is a workshop that will form part of IYQ with a focus on the role that quantum mechanics plays is modern atomic and molecular science.

CEQPAS is organised in five interlinked sessions.

  • Atomic and molecular spectroscopy and its applications to atmospheric sciences and astronomy
  • Collisions and their applications in plasma physics
  • Studies in Chemical physics & physical chemistry
  • The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for atomic and molecular data analysis and generation.
  • The application of quantum science to our wider understanding of phenomena including radiation sciences.

At the meeting some white papers will also be presented and discussed as part of developing a future roadmap of atomic and molecular sciences.

CEQPAS is a three-day meeting held in the city of Belgrade. It is limited to some 40 participants with priority being given to researchers in Central and Eastern Europe. Early career researchers are especially interested. It will be formally part of the IYQ in the region. All delegates will be invited to give oral presentations.

Abstracts of the contributions should be submitted no later than October 10, 2025.  Please register and submit the abstract through the following form. Abstract should not exceed one page and must adhere to the guidelines provided in the abstract template, which is available for download:

No registration fee will be charged but participants will be responsible for their accommodation and travel plans and there will be a cost for the planned excursion and dinner. Further details will be posted on the website.

Organizers recommend hotel – Hotel Garni Vizura sport, Cara Dušana 105, Zemun. We advise to book early using personal contact to hotel website or booking.com. There are also lots of other hotels in Zemun or Belgrade city center. Accommodation arrangement and payment will be under the responsibility of the participant and will be dealt directly with the hotel, according to each single hotel’s terms and conditions. Organizing Committee will not be involved or responsible for accommodation arrangements or cancellation penalties.

Immediately after the meeting the first MOLESs workshop will be held also in Belgrade.
